The Holocaust... A Survivor's Tale...

never again...

A Tribute to Children in the Holocaust: portrait renderings by Barbara Krahe Powers, dedicated to Heinz and Eva

Millions of innocent children suffered with their families because of discrimination.  Helpless little ones with trusting eyes were driven from their homes, forced into hiding, exiled to foreign lands starved, tortured, and murdered. Nearly 1.5 million children perished.

’Remember A Child’ began with a rendering of Heinz Geiringer, musician, artist, story-teller, poet, avid reader, diligent student and brother of my dear friend, Eva Schloss.  This inspired me to complete more than 250 portraits, to honor the spirit of each precious child, highlight their beautiful features, acknowledge their birth and the families who loved them, give us occasion to remember.

[Portraits were rendered from black and white archived photographs, used with permission or copyrighted in the public domain.  The backgrounds, circumstances and stories vary.   While the source of each picture is documented, the portraits are not intended for identification.]
